Source: What Is A Podcast?
According to Dictionary.com:
a digital audio file made available on the Internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device, typically available as a series, new installments of which can be received by subscribers automatically.
Let’s put that in plain English. A podcast can best be described as a pre-recorded audio show. Each episode is available on-demand through podcasting apps such as Soundcloud, iHeartRadio,Google Play Music, and Apple Podcasts to name a few.
Podcasts are free to listen to and often generate revenue by adding advertisements into the recordings. Listeners are often able to download podcast episodes to listen offline as well as stream online.
You might also hear podcasts on the radio, especially Internet radio stations. This does not mean that podcasts are live. The recorded shows are sent to the radio stations to be played at the appropriate time according to the station programming schedule.
The topics of podcasts range from educational to entertainment. You will find podcasts on just about anything – interviews, fictional stories, history, comedy, true crime – the sky is the limit.
So, if you haven’t explored the new and exciting world of podcasts, start with the latest episode of the Northwest Corner! We’re a talk show similar to a morning radio show, and we feature celebrity guests, tell true (funny) stories, and anything else that is just plain fun. Enjoy!
